Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information Civilian Asset collects when you visit this site or place an order, how we use it, who we share it with, and what control you have over it. We tried to write it in plain English rather than in the usual wall of defined terms.

What we collect
Information you give us. When you place an order we collect your name, email address, shipping and billing address, and phone number if you provide one. When you sign up for our email list we collect your email address. When you contact us we keep the contents of that message.
We do not collect or store your full payment card details. Card information goes directly to our payment processor and we never see it.
Information collected automatically. When you browse the site we receive standard technical information including your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring page, and which pages you viewed and for how long. This comes in through cookies and similar technologies.
How we use it
- To process, produce, ship and support your order
- To send order confirmations, shipping notifications and responses to your questions
- To send marketing email if you asked for it, which you can stop at any time
- To detect and prevent fraud and abuse
- To understand how the site is used so we can make it better
- To meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations
Who we share it with
We share the minimum necessary with the companies that make this store work. We do not sell your personal information for money.
- Shopify, which hosts this store and processes orders on our behalf
- Payment processors, which handle your card or payment account directly
- Print and fulfillment partners, which receive your name and shipping address so they can produce and send your order. Our apparel is printed to order by a third party production partner, so your shipping details are passed to them for every apparel order
- Shipping carriers, which receive your address to deliver the package
- Our email platform, if you subscribe
- Analytics providers, which receive usage data about the site
We may also disclose information if we are legally required to, or where necessary to protect our rights, our customers, or someone's safety.
If this business is ever sold or merged, customer information may transfer as part of that transaction.
Cookies and tracking
We use cookies to keep your cart working, remember preferences, and understand site traffic in aggregate. Some are strictly necessary for the store to function and some are analytics or advertising related.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block the necessary ones, parts of the store will stop working, including checkout.
Some analytics and advertising cookies may count as "sharing" personal information under California law even though no money changes hands. You can opt out using the Your Privacy Choices link.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, opt out of marketing, or opt out of the sharing of your information for targeted advertising.
California residents have these rights under the CCPA and CPRA, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them.
Residents of the EEA and UK have rights under the GDPR, including access, correction, erasure, restriction, portability, and the right to object to processing. Our legal bases for processing are performing our contract with you when you order, your consent for marketing, and our legitimate interests in running and securing the store.
To exercise any of these, email shop@civilianasset.com and tell us what you want. We may need to verify who you are before we act, usually by confirming details of an order.
You can unsubscribe from marketing email at any time using the link at the bottom of every message. That does not stop transactional emails about an order you placed.
How long we keep it
We keep order records for as long as we need them to support the order and to meet tax and accounting requirements, which is generally seven years. Marketing subscribers are kept until you unsubscribe. Support emails are kept while they are useful and then deleted.
Security
This site runs over an encrypted connection and payment information is handled by PCI compliant processors rather than by us. We limit access to customer information to the people who need it to do their job.
No system is perfectly secure and we are not going to pretend otherwise. If we ever become aware of a breach affecting your information, we will notify you as required by law.
Children
This store is not intended for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.
Links to other sites
We reference and link to third party products, retailers and sources in our articles. Those sites have their own privacy policies and we are not responsible for how they handle your information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we do, we will change the date at the top. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect, and continuing to use the site after that means you accept the updated version.
