Capable is not a personality, it is a list of things you can actually do, like changing a tire in the rain, carrying somebody who cannot walk out on their own, getting a tourniquet on right the first time, or running your gun without having to think about it.

None of that shows up on its own. You build it one boring rep at a time, in the gym, on the range, and in the classes nobody posts about, which is why most of what we publish is about the work rather than the gear.

So yes, we make shirts, and we put real thought into them, because what you wear decides what you can carry comfortably and how much of it shows. But the shirt is the small part. Field Notes is where the rest of it lives, and that is training, maintenance, fitness and honest reviews, researched properly and written for people who are still figuring it out.

Then there is the part we cannot manufacture, which is the people. A community of civilians who decided that being capable was worth the work, and who would rather be useful to somebody than be the most equipped person in the room. The gear is not the asset. You are.
